When was the first worldwide patent issued?

​

The first recorded patent for an industrial invention was granted in 1421 in Florence to the Italian architect and engineer Filippo Brunelleschi. The patent gave him a three-year monopoly on the manufacture of a barge with hoisting gear used to transport marble.

When did the term “Supply Chain Management” first appear?

 

According to the British firm, Logmore, the term "supply chain" is attributed to the newspaper ‘The Independent’ in 1905, although the concept had been around for a long time, originating with the creation of the assembly line in the early 1900s. It wasn’t until 1982 that the term “supply chain management” was first named by Keith Oliver.

North Braddock, Pennsylvania was the location for which three historical events?

 

French and Indian War - General Braddock's Defeat in 1755

It was the location of a battle between the French regulars and their Indian allies vs. General Braddock who led the British regulars along with the Virginia militia led by George Washington.  General Braddock was wounded. Bodies from the battle were later found in the endzone of North Braddock`s former high school football field. 

 

​The Whiskey Rebellion - 1794

The beginning of the Whiskey Rebellion began here. The local farmers rebelled against the government tax on the whiskey that they made. The whiskey was shipped on the Monongahela River on barges. The barges traveled that river to the Ohio River then on to the Mississippi River to New Orleans.  

 

​The first major US steel plant began operation - 1875

The plant was owned by Andrew Carnegie.  Just up the hill from the plant is Andrew Carnegie`s first library along with a French and Indian War Museum. The plant owned by US Steel is still in operation.

What was the first export made by the first American settlers, and for whom was it made?

 

Timber was the first product exported by the settlers. As early as 1640, beams, masts, spars, and planks for shipbuilding, and all sizes of lumber were sawed and split in huge quantities, shipped mainly to Britain, but also to far distant ports.

What was the world’s first currency?

 

It is said that the ancient Mesopotamian civilization developed a large-scale economy based on the shekel as the unit of weight and currency. First recorded c. 2150 BC, it was nominally equivalent to a specific weight of barley that was the preexisting and parallel form of currency.
