  • Population: 4.75 million (2023); It is the fourth largest province by population.

  • Population Distribution: Major population centers are Calgary - 1.2M, Edmonton - 932,000, Red Deer - 100.418 and Lethbridge - 93,000.

  • Location: West-central Canada, north of Montana.

  • Alberta was named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848-1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria.

  • It is known as "The Energy Province".


Economy

  • Alberta has a diverse resource, manufacturing and agricultural base. They have a strong energy base both with petroleum, natural gas and mineral oil sands.

  • Agriculture is an important industry - cattle, wheat, barley, canola, sugar beets, potatoes, peas, mustard seed etc. One third of Alberta's land area is in agricultural use. Forestry also has a significant role.

  • Manufacturing industries include food processing, chemicals, oil refining, wood related products, metals, machinery and equipment.

  • Unemployment Rate: 6.7% (2019)
